北韓睽違六年再度舉辦「平壤國際馬拉松」(Pyongyang International Marathon),賽事於4月6日登場,包括來自中國、羅馬尼亞、衣索比亞等國的約200名運動員共襄盛舉。體育場內擠滿五萬名觀眾,運動員進場時響起熱烈歡呼,場面十分熱鬧。比賽路線穿越平壤市中心,經過重要地標,接著進入郊區,再返回體育場,當北韓選手穿越終點線時,現場歡聲雷動。
本次馬拉松活動是慶祝前領導人金日成4月15日冥誕的系列活動之一。總部位於北京的英國旅行社「高麗旅行社」(Koryo Tours),則是賽事的正式合作夥伴,主要協助外國選手報名事宜。自2020年新冠肺炎疫情以來,北韓開始封鎖邊界,2023年開始慢慢取消限制,但目前似乎仍只有俄羅斯旅行團獲准進入,常規的旅遊活動仍未開放。
